Easter is all about celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. All throughout Easter week was a time of reflection of the week leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus and His resurrection days later.

The Promise of the Resurrection

I want to take this post to highlight the promise of the resurrection I was reflecting on during Easter and the incredible meaning behind it.

Taking a look at some scripture on the gospel of Mark account of the events, we see Jesus telling His disciples of His upcoming death and resurrection.

Mark 9:31-32 – New Living Translation
for he wanted to spend more time with his disciples and teach them. He said to them, “The Son of Man is going to be betrayed into the hands of his enemies. He will be killed, but three days later he will rise from the dead.” They didn’t understand what he was saying, however, and they were afraid to ask him what he meant

Then fast forward after Jesus has been crucified and buried, in Mark 16 it accounts the moment they realise Jesus is no longer in the tomb.

Mark 16:5-7 – New Living Translation
When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right side. The women were shocked, but the angel said, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Look, this is where they laid his body.  Now go and tell his disciples, including Peter, that Jesus is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there, just as he told you before he died.”

What I want to highlight is how we can sometimes know of the promises of God yet somehow we don’t see it when it is in front of us! We saw in the first passage Jesus clearly telling His disciples He will die and rise again, and this promise being fulfilled in the passages after His resurrection, but the disciples were still in disbelief.

Despite the doubt and unbelief of the disciples all throughout Jesus still kept His promise. It’s another reminder for me that God does not change, even when we doubt or refuse to believe, God keeps His promises, He is unchanging. Jesus kept His promise and rose just like He said He would.

The promise of His resurrection is a powerful promise that also brings with it the promise of eternal life, that if we believe in Jesus’ resurrection we have eternal life.

Romans 10:9 – English Standard Version
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

So if we know God keeps His promises we can rest assured that the promises He has given to us in His word will not change and we can have hope and comfort from these promises.

Easter is an extra special time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus. And while Easter on our calendars is a temporary event, I believe we should celebrate this every single day. When praying to God and confessing our sins before Him, we should remember and be thankful for Jesus; that because of Him we can be cleansed from our sins every day.

As followers of Christ we should always celebrate the resurrection of Christ and the promise of eternal life that comes with it. Remember it in your heart every day, don’t let that celebration fade away just because Easter is over! Always celebrate Jesus!
